Smoking Charges Ignite

Last night, Amy took Anna, our seven-year-old, to the dress rehearsal for her 2015 dance recital. I was left in charge of Will, our nine-year-old, and Ella, our three-year-old. What follows is a litany of the kids showing me that I exist in their world as a piece of tightly-spun twine, permanently...

Piece of Sh*t Car Reprise

When I was in high-school, a popular song named "Ode to My Car," by Adam Sandler, spun regularly on the radio. No, it didn't. All foul-mouthed teenage boys wished such happy, unfiltered radio days would appear, but that didn't stop the explicit lyrics from making an impact, even if the song's plot...

Conrats

By Seth Kabala

Strange pet owners and one awesome Animaniacs character aside, all rats are evil, right? Can I get an amen? Thought so.

But none are so evil as the under-lords of the rat society, the nefarious super-diseased vermin known as Conrats. These vile creatures will slip into your speech without warning, if you’re careless, especially when said speech is promulgated in a Facebook comment.

Following our Facebook announcement about Gabriella Quinn’s impending birth (that sounds ominous. Oh, wait. I’ll have TWO girls soon, so, yeah, it is. Just … leave me alone), Amy’s Aunt Barb commented “Conrats” instead of the real word. I know what she really meant.

Or do I?

Isn’t it possible that she feels slighted that we only visit their California home every few years, and as a result has summoned her influential powers with California legislators, the keepers of the Conrats, and has given the order for the Conrats to destroy our financial way of life? Isn’t it possible?

Type carefully, because although consonants can be inadvertently swapped in digital media as easily as venereal diseases on the Jersey Shore, the effects can be devastating.

Somewhere a grammarian is waving the white flag of defeat, surrendering to the Conrats.
